Does your skin need a stronger skincare regime for winter?

YES, yes it does.


Why do I need to change my routine in the winter?

During the colder months, our skin needs help adapting to it’s surroundings. The colder air outside, and dry heating indoors will inevitably affect the skin. It’s important that you increase your skins hydration during this time.

What can I do?

Follow the steps below to see how you can give your skin extra care this winter. And don’t worry, it’s not a massive leap from your normal routine.

Step 1: Cleanse

Cleasning is a no-negotiator when it comes to your skin routine. Whatever the time of year, your skin needs a good cleanse to remove any impurites and nasties from the surface. Would you skip brushing your teeth in the winter – NO, so stick to your usual routine and start with a good cleanse!

Step 2: Exfoliate

During the colder months, the cold air and dry heating cna dry out your skin cells. Therfore, you need to exfoliate more than you would during the hotter months to get rid of the dead skin cells. Brighten your complexion by increasing your exfoliation to approximately twice a week.

Step 3: Moisturise & Apply Serums

The most important thing to consider, is getting a more intensive moisturiser into your winter routine. In addition to your moisturiser, a serum will help protet your skins barrier, therefore making it more resistant to colder temperatures (and dry heating). You want to focus on the ingredieants:

Humectants: Hylauronic acid and glycerin are key humectants that specialise in extracting water from the deeper layer of the skin and moving them up to your stratum corneum (outer layer of the skin)

Emollients: Emollients (like oils) soften the skin by filling spaces bewteen skin flakes to create a smooth surface. Your skin needs emollients and you’ll find they feel good too!

Occlusives: Occlusives form a protective barrier on the skin that prevents or slows down transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and keeps moisture locked in so your skin can drink it.

Step 4: SPF (YES, even in the winter)

Sun protection is a must if you care about your skin. Sun protections should be worn 365 days of the year. This provides protection from harmful UVA & UVB rays by using a broad spectrum SPF every day of the year.
